Thomastik KF18 Single .018 Stainless Steel Flat Wound on Steel Core

Just what I hoped for soundwise - as a B string (!) on my acoustic guitar
This is a G string for classical guitar but given its diameter it should give a "usual" tension tuned up a third to a B string on/for a steel-string acoustic.
I ordered one and immediately installed it in place of a 16 gauge B string on my Seagull mini jumbo. The effect was as I hoped: a round sound without the jingle-jangle that a plain wire string can give, with a tension that feels right under the fingers and still a clear, ringing tone all the way up the fretboard.
The flat wire winding is so well done that you can hardly see, feel or hear the fact that this is a wound string.
Trimming the excess I was surprised to see that this string seems to have a brass plated core wire, and what looks like a thin layer of silk between the core and the winding - which would make this a silk-and-steel design. It would certainly make sense for steel strings designed for classical guitar.
Now let's see how long it holds up under the increased tension. Given the price I hope a very long time!
