Attention!! Roundcore strings must *not* be shortened before tightening, otherwise the wrapping is loosened and the string is unusable.
Wrapped strings have a core,. This is usually always round. In the course of mass production, especially of guitar strings, resourceful manufacturers discovered that a hexagonal core (hexcore) is faster, more reliable, and therefore less costly to wrap. The Hexcore improves the "anchorage" between core and winding, but it also makes the string stiffer and creates a higher tension or tensile force. The fact that the winding is not fully applied to the core, but only at the tips of the angular core, means that moisture and impurities can accumulate in the small cavities, which quickly leads to a dull tone. The string sounds "dead".
Roundcores have to be wound much slower. It is important that roundcore strings are not shortened to the mechanics before being wound up, but only after they have reached a basic tension by being wound up. If you ignore this, the wrapping will detach from the core and the string will be unusable!
Roundcore strings achieve a longer life and offer a very pleasant feeling due to the low string tension. Sonically, the roundcore is made by a longer sustain (fade out of the sound) and a balanced and rich overtone.
The legendary Adamas Phosphor Bronze strings now available as Round Core version
Slowly wound high end strings
Round instead of hexagonal core wire
The wrapping lies flat on the core wire, giving a longer sustain and more balanced and harmonious sound.
The same wire thocknesses and lower string tension gives a comfortable playing feeling
