Aqula Red series

The service and help from Lord of the Strings is superb (as always).
The aquila Red series (lowG) produce a clear crisp sound and has an even volume across all the strings although the Low G being wound does have more volume but can be adjusted by how you strike the string. I believe this to be the most perfect sound and playability that i have found over all other brands, but, and its a BIG BUT........ be prepared to have at least 2 spare sets because they break VERY EASILY. This generally occurs when they are brought up to tension on installation. I had heard about this on many occasions from different reviews and believed, perhaps the strings were not being installed correctly but i can most definitely confirm that the strings are very unpredictable. (That said having broken 3 strings) the set i have on my solid acacia tenor Uke have been on for over 4 months and is played every day for at least 1 maybe 3 hours each day. It is most disappointing that these strings seem to have an inherent problem to break (FOR NO REASON). All 14 of my ukes are set up perfectly and over the last 40 years of playing stringed instruments i have learned how to dress and set an instrument. Great attention is given to ensure there are no sharp edges on the saddle or the Nut and all frets are as perfect as they could be, so without doubt i can confirm that the strings are the fault. Such a shame and pity because these strings produce the most perfect playability and tone. Will i get more? I think perhaps not until the problems are resolved and Aquila believe the customer is not the problem. The rating for these strings would be more than EXCELLENT if this issue was resolved however until then the rating is poor. If i am performing and i break a string then i really expect a new one from the packet to install without issues but with the aquila reds i fully expect to use a different more reliable string to get me through the gig . I have to rate the string as BAD for the reasons stated but i would prefer to give it a rating labeled "UNRELIABLE".
